Patient Advice Overview

Please phone ahead for all appointments – For routine appointments, we recommend booking a week or two in advance to ensure a time and date that suits you with your regular GP.

Maximum two problems per consult please – Our appointment slots are 10 minutes which usually allows for one or two problems to be addressed thoroughly and no more.  If you have multiple health concerns, please book a longer consultation.

Payment is required at the time of consultation – Please discuss with us if you are having financial difficulties as we may be able to help.

Please treat our staff with respect – We pride ourselves on providing friendly, caring and supportive professional health services and ask that you are also respectful to our staff in return.

We are passionate about inspiring future doctors and nurses so we teach both medical and nursing students.  We will always ask your permission before allowing a student to be present during a consultation.

Continuity of GP Care – Please try to book an appointment with your own GP as much as possible and you will have better outcomes.

Cardiac Risk Assessment

Cardiac Risk Assessments (as per the Ministry of Health Guidelines) are available with us. This test will determine your risk of cardiac event or stroke within the next 5 years. These free assessments are based on age and cultural background. You’ll receive an invitation for your health check at the appropriate time for you. Also, Cardiac Rehabilitation is offered to people at risk of a cardiac event or post-cardiac events and surgery.

Child Health

Ensuring wellbeing for all the family including children’s developmental, behavioural and physical health. All enrolled children 13 years of age and under are eligible for free GP services.

We conduct various child health checks

  • Age-related health checks and measurements
  • Developmental and milestone monitoring
  • Child immunisations: Make a booking with your GP for a check for your baby at 6 weeks, which includes the first immunisation. Otherwise, book with a Practice Nurse directly for all other childhood immunisations.

These can be referred to in your child’s Personal Health Record also known as the Well Child Tamariki Ora My Health Book.
We treat a range of childhood conditions and illnesses. Some of the more common child health complaints include:

  • Allergies
  • Asthma
  • Eczema
  • Ear infections
  • Bladder infections
  • Colds
  • Upper respiratory infections
  • Vomiting and diarrhoea
Colds, Flus & Covid-19

For the foreseeable future any cold or flu like illnesses need to be assessed initially over the phone via the Triage Nurse for the protection of other people in the practice. If we need to examine you after the initial virtual consultation, then we can plan to see you safely in a different part of the clinic. This keeps us all safe.

Community Spirometry

We are able to organise a community spirometry test for you, we do however provide this service ourselves. A spirometry test is used to ascertain lung function. To access this you must be referred by your GP, we will then organise the test for you.

Diabetes

We do Diabetes Annual Reviews for people with an established diagnosis of Diabetes. This is free for patients enrolled at our practice between the ages of 15-79 years. This annual review assesses you for ongoing diabetes-related complications and for cardiovascular risk. As part of the diabetes service, we also provide an Insulin Initiation service.

Family history and symptoms such as weight loss/gain are an indicator of diabetes.  Diabetes is largely avoidable; we actively work with our patients to prevent the onset of diabetes.

Driver Licence Medicals

Please advise the Receptionist if you are booking an appointment for a Driver Licence Medical.

The cost for a Driver Medical is currently $110.00.

You must bring your current driving licence with you and the glasses that you wear for driving.

The Receptionist will provide you with a form to fill out when you arrive for your appointment.

If you are needing to talk to the Prescriber about any other concerns, please book a double appointment (this will incur a consult fee).

If you are 75 years or over, you must book an appointment for a memory test at least a week before the driver’s medical appointment.

GP Consultations

Consultations with doctors and nurse practitioners are booked at 10-minute intervals which is usually enough time to deal with one main problem and perhaps one minor problem in addition. For each issue you bring to us we need to allow time for you to explain the problem, ask you questions and examine you if necessary. Then we formulate a diagnosis, organise any appropriate investigations, plan and discuss treatment with you. We take your health problems seriously and don’t want to risk not dealing with them properly by rushing through a list. You can book a double appointment if you think you may require longer than 10 minutes. This may be particularly helpful for mental health consultations. There is an additional fee for extended and double appointments.

Phone Consultations

We have become very comfortable with offering phone consultations for our regular patients with problems where an examination is not required. We have the advantage of knowing you and having your notes in front of us which makes a big difference. Good examples of the types of problems we can deal with via the telephone are review of long-term conditions, fertility, follow up appointments for mental health.  Standard consult fees apply.  Booking a phone consult means you understand and agree to our Privacy, Consent and Terms.

Immunisations & Vaccinations

Child Immunisations

Vaccinations and Pregnancy
If you are planning to become pregnant it is highly recommended to check which vaccinations you may need before you become pregnant. Whooping Cough vaccination is strongly recommended for all expecting parents and other adults such as grandparents who will be in close contact with a new baby. Newborns are at risk of serious complications if they contract whooping cough.  Pregnant women can have a free whooping cough vaccine from sixteen weeks. This provides optimal protection for new babies. The Flu/Influenza vaccine can also be given.

Adult Vaccinations
Please note not all adult vaccines are funded. Some incur a cost and are only free to particular age groups or medical conditions. Immunisation is still relevant in adulthood as ongoing protection is required for preventable diseases. Even if vaccinations were given in childhood, adults may need booster doses to maintain immunity. There are a range of adult vaccines available at our practice.
